  • I heart Alicia Keys

    0

aside from Mariah Carey (boo! pop diva ako), I’ve sworn allegiance to Alicia Keys.

Man, that girl is talented (and beautiful to boot!). From her latest album “As I Am”, my  favorite track would be, “Like you’ll never see me again”. I guess as the sucker that I am for tragedy and romance, I love this song because it speaks about what I feel right now. I haven’t seen drei for 3 days now, and it kills me that sometimes, I think he doesn’t miss me as much as I miss him. Or maybe I’m just a drama queen.

Whatever. I love this song. I love her songs. Buy her album.

No more pop(?) songs – it’s just all soul, all passion, sounds old school soul too – i love it. No more Usher collaborations (my boo my boo how many times do you have to say it…) but she has one with John Mayer though – but it sounds really good you’ll love it, swear. What I love about Alicia Keys aside from her good looks and talent with the keys, is that when she sings, she sings with passion -  she sings with all her heart. Sometimes I think she manages to cut a vocal chord or two during her live performances. Does she care if sweat’s dripping off her forehead? Nope, she just sings her lungs out and you actually FEEL the song(and for her).

She’s one of the artists who’s managed to make me cry by just humming. She’s THAT good.

  • Pushing Daisies – Hopelessly Devoted to you

    0

As usual, huli na naman ako sa balita. My boss told me about the series Pushing Daisies but I have yet to watch it. Maybe now that I’m no longer juggling 2 jobs, I might have time to watch.. anything!

I’ve loved the song Hopelessly Devoted To You by Olivia Newton-John ever since I first saw Grease in my younger years. I grew… appreciative of the song when I first had my heart broken by some jerk-ass in college, and now with this series, there’s just so much more reason to love it :)

    With lyrics such as:

    Looking ‘round the room
    I can tell that you
    Are the most beautiful girl
    In the room.
    In the whole wide room
And when you’re on the street
    Depending on the street
I bet that you are definitely
    In the top three
Good looking girls on the street

and it goes to make me laugh some more with..

    Let’s get in a cab
    I’ll buy you a kebab
    I can’t believe
    That I’m sharing a kebab
    With the most beautiful girl
I have ever seen with a kebab

From what I know (and do correct me if I’m wrong), teh band’s composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Having dubbed their band as “Formerly New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo”, they’ve been raiding HBO with their show Flight of the Conchords. I have yet to see any episode (I’m not sure if it’s available on our HBO) but judging from their song… maan, I’m pretty sure I’ll be crying at the end of every episode – from laughing too much (not to mention passing gas… hahah)

  • what makes a great movie(for me)?

    0

I’ve been meaning to read the book, but the movie came out first so off to Gateway Mall we went.

    stardust

Everyone knows I’m such a cheeseball so it’s safe to assume that I liked the movie and I loooove tristan :) My favorite character? the whoopsy pirate of course! Robert de Niro was hilarious as the pirate! It’s refreshing, fun(the siblings bickering at each other even in the after life hahaha priceless!), with just a bit of cheesiness thrown in (if it were too much of a love story, I’d probably be hurling my way out of the movie house). But, just the same, lemme just quote Yvaine’s confession of love to Tristan(who was a mouse at that time)

“You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn’t true. I know a lot about love. I’ve seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate… It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves… You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and… What I’m trying to say, Tristan is… I think I love you. Is this love, Tristan? I never imagined I’d know it for myself. My heart… It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it’s trying to escape because it doesn’t belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I’d wish for nothing in exchange – no fits. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine. “

A great script(make that a very quotable script), fantastic cast (michelle pfeiffer is still gorgeous after all these years, and her acting was, for a lack of a better word, refreshing. It’s good to see her in roles you wouldn’t think she’d take), and of course, the fact that it’s by Neil Gaiman makes Stardust, for me, a great movie :)

watch it. watch it. watch it. watch it. watch it.

and i love this song by her:

    feistNow at last

    Now at last I know
    What a fool I’ve been
For I’ve lost the last love
    I shall ever win

    And/Now at last I see
    How my heart was blind
    To the joys before me
    That I left behind

    When the wind was fresh
    On the hills
And the stars were new in the sky
And a lark was heard in the still
    Where was I
    Where was I

    When the spring is cold
    Where do robins go
    What makes winters lonely
    Now at last I know

    When the wind was fresh
    On the hills
And the stars were new in the sky
And a lark was heard in the still
    Where was I
    Where was I

    When the spring is cold
    Where do robins go
    What makes winters lonely
    Now at last I know
