I can’t express as eloquently as I can, how I felt while reading news bits on Jenifer Bedoya. Mejo huli ako sa balita. Pero 2 bagay lang masasabi ko:
Una – Sana pagpalian ni Lord yung family nya. Give them strength to survive this tragedy. God knows how hard it is to leave your family and work in a foreign land where men rape other men (and get away with it).
Pangalawa – sa mga naghatol ng kamatayan sa kanya (and it’s not just the KSA – dinadamay ko yung gobyerno ng pinas) – PUNYETA KAYO. To the former, mauubusan din kayo ng langis, at di nyo na tatapak-tapakan yung mga pinoy jan (to be fair, I’m not accussing the whole arab nation of injustice), at sa latter, (in my irritating señorita voice) mashado kayong mga inutil! Pano nga naman magagawan ng paraan tong kaso nya kung nung nasa lower court pa lang, ang kasama nya eh translator and the damn gov’t couldn’t provide a lawyer? Wag na kayo magpaliwanag. Alam naming wala tlaga kayong magagawa kasi in the first place, wala kayong ginawa. Tapos ang tigas ng muka nyo to say na bagong bayani yung mga ofw? Is that the way you treat our modern heroes?
What made me sadder/angrier was the fact that Jenifer Bedoya would do odd jobs inside prison just so he could still send money to his mother. Waiting for death and you can still manage to work and think of your family. God Bless Your Soul.
Yung mga ganitong kaso, it slaps IN-YOUR-FACE how fucking difficult it is to live in a 3rd world country made even harder by the incompetent/corrupt/backward/lahat-na-ng-negative-adjectives government we have. It’s hard to stay positive in the face of shittiness.
However, in times of shittiness, the people who are made of toughter stuff, yung mga tipong they’ve managed to build their character(sabi nga ng dad ni Calvin – it builds character), they come out and shine. And I’m thankful that in this lifetime, I’ve met people who are trying to make a difference in this country.
It’s time we DON’T just rely on the government. It’s time to take the fate of this country in our own hands (puhleez, i’m not inciting to sedition, but it’s tempting dba?!). Seriously though, just think of your future children/grandchildren – you want them to live in a shitty place like this?
Dante once said that the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crisis maintain their neutrality. Make your mark, don’t just LIVE for the sake of living. Make your stand. Don’t be the zombie. Just imagine how good it will look on your epitaph na you did something for your country or you’ll be remembered that way (instead of you being remembered for your extravagance or shoooes).
The world isn’t requiring you to do something BIG. Baby steps lang, ok na. Think about it.
